Managers

On our 4th week, Our prof suddenly gave us a quiz... but at the end he said he won't record it...hehe...
Then he tolds us things about enterprises:
-Organizational Structure of an Enterprise, the managers including the CEOs are the ones who make the strategic decisions and long term planning; the COO manages the core activities; the supporting activities include financial and IT departments and the CFO, CIO lead these supporting roles.
-Level of Users, in an enterprise there are four kinds of management, first is the Executive Management which makes the strategic decisions; the Middle Management which makes the tactical decisions; Operational Management which makes the operational decisions; then the Nonmanagement Management which makes the on-the-job decisions. Managers perform four activities: Planning,(establishing goals and objectives) Organizing(money, manpower, machine, methods), Leading(power) and Controlling(measuring performance).
-Functional Units within an enterprise: Accounting and Finance(manages the bisuness' money), Human Resources(manages the employees), Engineering or Product Development(developing ideas into products), Manufacturing(converting raw materials into physical products), Marketing(advertising), Sales(selling the company's products), Distribution(delivering products to customers), Customer Service(maintaning relationship with the customers), Information Technology-Information Services department(designing, purchasing, implementing, testing and maintaning information systems ). :)

About Jobs

Our Prof told us about the Computing Industry.
There is a high demand for computing professionals. The quality of computing professional graduates are going down. The notion of there are no jobs available is because:
1. Not much advertisements on print media.
2. Companies are not advertising at all.
Then he told us what computing professionals are capable of doing:
-Analyze Organizational Situations
-Conceptualize and Design Technological Solutions
-Plan the Execution of the Technical Solution
-Execute the Project
-Train the users of the Solution
-Launch the Solution to the Organization
-Perform Maintenance of the Solution
and he also told us the Non-Technical Skills that we should have and develop:
-Analytical
-Critical Thinker
-Problem-Solution Thinker
-Team-Attitude
-Independent Worker
-Resourceful
-Good Communicator
-Socially Responsible and Ethical IT Professional
-Leadership

I think [...It is Challenging...] :)

Analyzing Job Requirements

Our Professor asked us to make a list of the TECHNICAL SKILLS, NON-TECHNICAL SKILLS and RESPONISIBLITIES we saw in the IT job postings. As early as now, we should really start to improve ourselves so it won't be hard for us to look for our jobs in the future...

a. What are the technical skills being demanded of ICTM Professionals today? On the IT job postings I saw the demanded technical skills are the JAVA, VISUAL BASIC, C++ and SQL.

b. What are the non-technical skills that I need to develop now? I know and understand some languages like Chinese, English and Filipino but I don't practice all of them a lot. Communicating with people is really important and it is a big factor if you understand many languages.

c. How do I plan to develop these skills myself? I believe that I can do it because I'm really willing to learn! I will strive harder and do my best. :P

ICTM Professionals

On our second week, Sir Oli taught us about productivity, it is increasing the value created by the task; decreasing the time it takes to create the value and it is also related to doing something on small amount of time(efficiency) and doing something right(effectiveness). We should do things that have values like if you buy a car you should use it so it won't be a waste buying it and if you do something be sure that it will benefit not only you but also other people.
ICT related to Productivity:
It is reduction of non-value adding task/sub-task. Doing things regardless of time, geographical location and device.
An ICTM Professionals can also be called Information Systems Professionals, they think about technology as data capture, data storage, data and information access and information processing. They are and should be the Masters of technology, Masters of human systems and Masters of designing and implementation pf integrating technology to human systems.
I also learned what is the difference between ICT and CS. We ICTs are the ones who make the things CS do to reality we implement them. We make applications for productivity.
Like Sir oli said: "To be an ICTM Professional, we should start thinking like one." I liked Sir's example like at mcdo why is the line for taking orders so long? when you answer this you should give an answer like an ICTM Professional, the answer would be it is because when someone orders, he/she passes his/her order to the other person to punch and it takes more time than just by you doing it on your own...
