On our 9th week, Sir Oli taught us about input devices. Input as an important element of an information system. He told us about the electronic voting machine case, that Philippines is going for electronic elections. He asked us if which from the two machines (Direct Recording Electronic (DRE) or Optical Mark Recognition (OMR) ) will we choose to use for the upcoming elections on 2010, it was really tough to choose because both of them has their advantages and disadvantages.
ICT Professionals should analyze the data capture requirement, who will use it and where it will be use.
There are important factors we want to caonsider in the choice of Input Device:
-Accuracy and Correctness
-Completeness
-Speed of Data Capture
-Reliability of Device
-User-friendliness
-Environmental Applicability
-Disability Considerations
-Cost, Life of the Device
-Hygiene in use
And by the way , I learned that adults need Serif letters so they can easily read them and the young ones uses San Serif letters...
Input and Output always go together because input captures the data and the output presents the needed information, possible choices of data, validates and confirms the data capture.
There are two types of output:
1. Electronic output
2. Hardcopy output
-involves money
On the same week (Friday)
We had our field trip at Makro and Ms. Girly Velenzuela (Store Manager) told us things about Makro:
-Computers are situated in a vacant space
-Use to operate a chain of large volume raven
-Low price
-1968 in the Netherlands (start of Makro)
-Makro has 15 branches
-Trade in food and non-food
-Gas trading
-Capital investmentment cash and easy distribution
-Partners with SM
-Strong buying power (lowest prices for customers)
-Allow customers to conveniently find the things they need
-Macromail – communication between customers and makro
-Ordering stock control admin (things that the computer do)
-Advance data packaging software – basis of makro unique management and marketing
-Maximize the potential of product by having a low price –downsize for customers
-“Where’s the product, there’s replenishing"
-Loading system – above the lights (new stock) below the lights ( for sale)
-Top 2 for fresh food!
-Receiving time is 5 am to 10 am for wet dock (they used a flat weighing scale on the floor)
-Products should be frozen and fresh

-Dock checker – “just in time delivery” and production plan

:) Sir Oli was so caring he even taught us how we can go back to dlsu or to the place we will go. wala lang he was so kind kasi that's all... :)

Information System :)

On our 8th week, Sir Oli told and explained to us the Stages of Information System Development, Organizational Knowledge, Information Problems, Information System Elements, The situation that requires the use of an IS...
On the same week, he asked us to identify what IS should we use to solve the problem last time. What features should it have? What will be the role of each element of the Information System on your design? What specifics of each element do you propose? But he wasn't able to come to class because he is sick so he asked us to identify 15 input devices and write how is it different and useful and pass it to the IT Secretary... :) get well soon Sir Oli... :)

Information System

On our 7th week, our prof told and explained us what information system needed to be developed and implemented in an organization :
1. Internal improvement
-Efficiency, Effectiveness
2. Internal correction of problems
3. External mandate
-Law
4. Strategically determined
-Competition, Reduction of Resource Consumption, Expansion, Distribution, People, Financial Control
He also mentioned the VAT law:
1. 12%
2. 10%
3. list price - inclusive of VAT

After that on the same week we had an oral exam, he gave us a situation with a problem and we need to find out what IS should the company have to be able to solve the problem. We have to give him questions so that we can figure out what can be the main problem. At the end, we figured out the main problem and what solution should we do. :)

Information System Development

On our sixth week, our Prof told us things we should know about Information System.
There are six parts of a Information System:
1.Data
2.People
3.Process
4.Software
5.Hardware
6.Network
And the Goal or Objective of an IS:
-MORE ACURATE INFORMATION
anywhere, any time, when needed by people who works for an Organization.
Effects of intergrating technology in an Organization:
-How,What,Who,Where things are done
Happens to a non-well thought of intergration of ICT Solution in Organizations:
-Things not done well, New things cannot be done.
Information System needed to be developed and implemented in an Organization:
1.Internal improvement in the conduct of operations.
2.Internal correction of problems hampering the operations.
3.External mandate.
4.Strategically determined.

Report about our Interview with the managers.

On our 5th week, our Prof asked us to come to his class wearing formal attires for our report about the things we learned from our interview with the managers of a company. It was a bit scary for us to be called. Three groups were called but the second group was not yet finish then third group wasn't able to report because of lack of time. :)
